About me
Hi, I’m Zachariah Read, a young creative, passionate about writing and filmmaking.
I am currently entering my third year of BA (Hons) Film Practice at the University of the Arts London (UAL).
I'm exploring various filmmaking aspects, from sound design to cinematography, whilst recognizing the need to gain experience through assisting and runner roles as I navigate the industry.
My ultimate goal is to become a writer/director. I have just finished a 2 week placement at the VMI in North Acton and learned new skills in equipment knowledge and maintenance as well as gain a better understanding of the business aspect of filmmaking. I have also honed my skills in sound, serving as sound designer and recordist for student short film “Eye Catch” which is currently entered in several festivals. Additionally, I'm presently seeking more opportunities in cinematography to build on my experiences and develop an understanding in another area.
Long-term, I aim to revive mid-budget comedies and get them back into the mainstream, as I grew up on classics such as Superbad (2007), Bridesmaids (2011) and Shaun of the Dead (2004).
As well as this, I hope to adapt my sci-fi/fantasy book series, 'Hybrid World' (working title), into feature films, exploring themes of race, gender equality, and more.
Whilst presently working on “Eye Catch”, some recent projects include co-cinematographer for the short dark comedy 'Centaur' and the development of a script for a comedy short film tackling social anxiety known as 'Pen Is' (working title). Which I plan to make in the near future. (Date to be determined)
I aim to use storytelling to provoke meaningful discussions while ensuring an enjoyable viewing experience. For more projects, please refer to my portfolio and CV.
